The Civil Aviation Authority announces the development projects of Abha International Airport

The Transport Minister and Chairman of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), Dr. Nabil Al Amoudi, announced the transport projects strategic plans in Asir region, which included air transport projects in the region.

 

 His Excellency made the announcement during a ceremony under the guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, and under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Asir Region.

 

Air transport projects in the Asir region include the new Abha Airport project, which includes the new main travel terminal, as well as all the necessary facilities for operation.

 

The air transport projects in Asir include the expansion of the main airport terminal, which aims to raise the airport annual capacity from 1.1 Million passengers to 2.5 million passengers. In addition, a plan was put in place to increase in the number of boarding gates for domestic flights to 4 gates, with a waiting seat capacity of 750.  

 

There is also a possibility of increasing the number of gates to six as needed. This in addition to increase the number of international gates to two gates with waiting seating capacity of 300, as well as the rehabilitation of the main runway to receive large and wide-bodied aircraft.

 

It is worth mentioning that the GACA is working on the preparation procedures for launching the new Abha Airport project on an accreditation platform. The capacity of the project is expected to reach 8 million passengers annually, becoming the fifth largest airport in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
