The Kingdom wins the International Civil Aviation Organization Council election
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have won an election in the International Civil Organization Council (ICAO) during the 39th General Assembly Meeting which was held in Montreal, Canada. The Kingdom achieved a great victory in the nominations for permanent membership at the Organization’s Council in Canada, along the other permanent members in the Council amounting to 36 States.
For his part, H.E. Mr. Suliman Alhamdan, the Saudi Transport Minister, Chairman of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said “the victory of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia shows how member states at the ICAO appreciate the distinct contribution of the Kingdom in the world of civil aviation and its positive role in its region and its known presence worldwide. And what the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosque Government keen interest in civil aviation affairs, as well fulfilling the Kingdom’s obligations and responsibilities and its strict compliance to the regulations and standards issued by ICAO particularly in the field of security and air safety”.
The minister pointed out that the result emphasize the Kingdom’s pivotal role in the world of civil aviation at a regional and a global level. He noted that the successes achieved by GACA are due to God support and the guidance of the Custodian of Two Hold Mosques, stressing that GACA will continue to be an important partner in the development of civil aviation, and an effective driving force in the national economy, providing services and facilities for air transport sector.
The Kingdom has participated in the 39th session of the General Assembly of the ICAO with a delegation headed by the Minister of Transport and Chairman of GACA, along with a number of officials at GACA and some other government’s agencies. The delegation had an active role in supporting ICAO through heading and effective participation in many of the executive committees of the organization. GACA representative participated in the work of the organization and the commissions related to aspects of safety and security, aviation and the environment.
It’s worth mentioning that the Kingdom has hosted in the month of August, 2016 “a Global Ministerial Conference on Civil Aviation” that lasted for three days in cooperation with the ICAO. The conference was held under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdul-Aziz to shape the future of civil aviation in the world and to enhance regional, as well and international cooperation in the areas of safety and security of civil aviation. The conference was the first of its kind in the region, where it was attended by a large number of transport ministers and head of Civil Aviation Authorities in fifty-four states. This in addition to thirteen international and regional organizations specializing in civil aviation, and more than 450 entities and companies specializing in civil aviation.
