While on an inspection tour of Terminal 5 at King Khalid International Airport The Governor of Riyadh: The new terminal is an important addition to the city of Riyadh

His Royal Highness Prince Faisal Bin Bandar bin Abdul-Aziz, Governor of Riyadh, said during an inspection tour of terminal 5 at King Khalid International Airport (KKIA), that the new terminal is an important addition to the capital city of Riyadh.  He expressed his pride in the Saudi engineers who contributed to the completion of the project to the best of their abilities.
This came during HRH inspection tour on Monday before the inauguration of the new domestic terminal at KKIA in Riyadh.  This to inspect the progress of work and follow up on the achievement that have been accomplished.  HRH was accompanied by the mayor of Riyadh, H.E. Eng. Ibrahim Alsultan.
HRH was received upon arrival by H.E. the president of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), Mr. Suliman Alhamdan and his assistant for airports, Eng. Tariq Abdul-Jabbar, his assistant to for Corporate Communication and Marketing, Mr. Bassim Alsalom, as well the General Director of KKIA, Mr. Abdul-Aziz Abuharba and a number of Saudi engineers working for the project.
HRH was shown all the facilities of the new passenger’s terminal facilities and listened to a detailed explanation of by H.E. the president of GACA of the capabilities and modern technologies used at the new terminal, which will greatly contribute to the improvement of services provided at the airport.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation president was quoted as saying, “the visit of HRH prince Faisal Bin Bandar bin Abdul-Aziz, the Governor of Riyadh comes within the framework of the keenness of His Highness to inspect all the vital and important projects in Riyadh region and follow up on the work in progress”.
He stressed that the new terminal is in its final operation and readiness test mode in preparation of the gradual move to the new terminal.  The new terminal will contribute to meet the projected growth in the number of passengers after the completion of the development of other airport terminals.  The airport (God willing) will be providing advanced and complete services to traveling public.
Mr. Alhamdan also added that construction of the new terminal at KKIA, comes as a commitment to the directive given by our wise leadership to contribute to the convenience of the travelers, and as part of the General Authority of Civil Aviation’s strategy for the development of the civil aviation sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
He also praised the role of the young Saudi engineers who worked efficiently and effectively on the project.  Reflecting on the potentials of the Saudi youth of all fields.
The total area of the new terminal covers a space of 106,000 square meters and can accommodate seven wide-bodied aircrafts, or sixteen medium size aircrafts at a time.  The new terminal has an annual capacity of 12 million passengers and contains sixty luggage inspection counters, twenty self-service counters eight travel gates, five baggage claim conveyor belts measuring (415) meters in length.  This in addition to thirty elevators and twenty-one escalators.  The total area of the first-class and business lounge are (2400) square meters and a VIP (Executive Office) at a space of (2784) square meters, the terminal also includes a commercial area solely dedicated to shops and a food court with a total space of (4712) square meters.
