Laptops, tablets prohibited on US-bound flights – GACA

RIYADH, 20 March 2017
The General Authority of Civil Aviation directed all airlines operating in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to disallow any and all portable computers – laptops – and any tablet devices larger than a smartphone, such as iPads and Kindles into passenger cabins. All such devices must be stored in luggage that passengers check in at airports prior to their flights bound for the United States.

The directives came in response to instructions by US authorities, with a window of 96 hours for all airlines across the globe to comply, as of Monday, March 20th.

GACA stated that the directives will be implemented at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah. The Authority called upon passengers to get in touch with their airlines to stay up to date on the terms and procedures imposed by some countries – especially the US – prior to flying there.
