Al Tamimi meets ICAO’s official in Montreal


Riyadh, 14 March 2018
His Excellency Mr. Abdul Hakim Al Tamimi, President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) and his accompanying delegation visited the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) at its headquarter in Montreal, Canada.  They also met with the Kingdom’s permanent delegation to the ICAO.
 
During the meeting, he was briefed on the work of the permanent delegation and the progress of future projects, which they intends to implement at the ICAO.
 
On the other hand, the President of GACA held a meeting with the ICAO CEO Mr. Olomoya Bernard Alio, during which they discussed means of developing current relations and methods of cooperation between GACA and the ICAO in all related fields and ways of contributing to the development of the civil aviation sector in the Kingdom and the region as a whole.   He also met with the Secretary General of ICAO, Dr. Fang Liu and that meeting; they discussed cooperation agreements in the fields of security and safety between the two sides.  They also discussed creating training opportunities for GACA staff.
 
In his address to the representatives and ICAO members, H.E Mr. Al Tamimi, said that since the signing of the Chicago Convention, the Kingdom has committed itself to the recommended standards and practices and has supported those practices to achieve the strategic objectives, ensuring high level of safety, effectiveness and efficiency.   He went on to say that the Kingdom hosted the premises of the Aviation Security Cooperation Program in the Middle East and Africa.  The Kingdom also secured all the operational cost for the first two years as part of its contribution to ICAO’s strategic objectives by supporting its projects in the region.
 
His Excellency also noted that the Kingdom will host “The 4th Civil Aviation Summit for Safety for the Middle East and the provision of executive briefs for Directors General and CEOs”; this will be held by the end of September 2018.  The Kingdom will also host the “World Aviation Forum” during the first quarter of 2019 to follow up on the Global Ministerial Aviation Summit and the Riyadh declaration, which was signed in August 2016.
 
His Excellency stressed the Kingdom keen interest in emerging issues such as, “Remote piloted Aircraft System” and cybersecurity issues that will have the greatest impact on the future of civil aviation.
 
On the other hand, the President of GACA met with the Permanent Representative of the United States to the ICAO, Ambassador Thomas Carter, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the ICAO, Ambassador Sergey Gpdolpv, as well as the Permanent Representative of China to the ICAO, Mr. Chang Jinyang.  During the meetings, they reviewed ways to develop relations and enhance cooperation in the area of aviation and air transport.
