GACA launches its electronic services for Drones permits

Riyadh 11 January 2019
The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has launched its electronic service for Drones. This comes within the framework of a comprehensive digital transformation project for GACA’s services.  GACA’s campaign was launched with the aim of enhancing awareness of the importance of registering and issuing license for the drones by GACA, which is a prerequisite for operating drones in the Kingdom.

The electronic services comes from the role of GACA in achieving a safe environment in accordance with specific safety standards.  It also comes within GACA’s efforts to improve and regulate the work of drones within the framework of the Kingdom’s vision 2030.  GACA made registering and issuing license for the drones easy through its electronic service website (eaviation.gaca.gov.sa/uas).

GACA pointed out that the electronic service for registering drones is user friendly, where all the intended user has to do is visit the website, fill out the needed information, and follow up the process electronically.  The services provided by GACA is easy and flexible in ending all the procedures and link the process to a number of government organizations in order to make registering and issuing the license quite easy.

GACA stressed the importance of issuing the drone’s license through the website, where it identified several steps to obtain a permit for the use of all drones.  This include the drones for all non-recreational (commercial) use category that requires registration and issuing the license and approval of GACA.  In addition, license is to be granted for amateur and personal usage and this is done through registering the drones and issuance a permit and operating license and practicing this hobby through the aviation club licensed by the GACA.

It is worth noting, that drones are defined as a remotely piloted, or pre-programmed plane that follows a specific route to perform specific tasks.  It is divided in three categories:  (non- recreational commercial that weigh 25 kg and above, non-recreational commercial small type, lastly amateur and personal use).  GACA efforts to facilitate the registration and issuance of license for unmanned aircraft (drones) comes within its desire for a full comprehensive digital transformation.  GACA provided a fully integrated platform with several service related to the registration of drones, most notably (registration and renewal, re-issuance of lost license, change of drone ownership, or registration number).  This in addition to operating permit service for drones, most notably (permit, or renewal of commercial, recreational operation permit).
